Here is where we will be posting our current projects. We hope you’ll find they give you ideas for projects of your own.

Action Learning is a process of working and learning in small groups where participants meet regularly to focus on work-based issues, problems and questions. It provides a structure to progressively work through a project and a space for reflection and ‘time out to think’ – a sort of think tank to air thoughts and ideas with a friendly group of 6 like-minded people.

Training Course for Action Learning Facilitators

CAL is delighted to announce that we’re starting to train Action Learning facilitators, in partnership with Carter Hall Associates.
If you facilitate others as part of your role, whether you are a project worker, a community organiser or working in collaboration with colleagues, Action Learning is a great addition to your skill set.
The course equips you with the theory, format and skills of AL facilitation and how to introduce this method to others.  As well as learning how to use AL in your work, you’ll also gain professionally and personally as AL helps develop confidence, communication skills, self-awareness and problem-solving ability. Email us and we’ll send you full details.

How we work:

Two experienced trainers work with the group providing you with a complete learning experience so by the end of the 3 days, you will have the experience and confidence to use an AL approach with your groups.  The trainers will also share their own insights and resources with you.
We believe in learning by doing, so participants work in a real AL group or ‘Set’ from the beginning. Each person facilitates the training Set twice during the course.

You will gain:

1.    an understanding of Action Learning theory and practice
2.    the skills necessary to become an effective Action Learning facilitator
3.    the knowledge to start using Action Learning with a group or team
4.    experience of using our tried and tested format
5.    ideas, tools and resources to use with your own teams, groups and Sets

The course is for people who have some experience of working with groups, however no previous Action Learning experience is required. Comprehensive learning materials are provided which you can take away.

Is the course recognised?
The course is the Professional Development Programme in Action Learning Facilitation and isendorsed by the ILM (Institute for Leadership and Management).  This means that you are assured of the experience of the trainers and the quality of the course content.  The programme consists of 3 days face-to-face followed by an optional assessed section, which you do in your own time.
